Reap What You Vote

The Story

Picture a family sitting around the dinner table planning their summer vacation. Dad lays out two choices: a week at the beach or a week in the mountains. Everybody gets a vote, and majority wins.

Mom votes beach. The youngest votes beach. The middle daughter votes mountains. That leaves the teenage son, who is half watching a video on his phone. Dad asks him twice. He finally shrugs and says, “Whatever. I don’t care.”

So the beach wins.

Fast forward to July. The son is sunburned, bored, and complaining every single day. He would have loved the mountains. Finally his dad looks at him and says, “Son, you had a vote. You just didn’t use it.”

That boy did not get the trip he wanted, but he still had to live with the trip everybody else picked.

In a few weeks, on Tuesday, November 3, we all get a vote. And whether we use it or not, we will all be living with the outcome.

The Scripture

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Galatians 6:7 (NIV)

“When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.” Proverbs 29:2 (NIV)

How I Understand This Scripture

The way I read Paul in Galatians, he is reminding us that choices have consequences. That is not a threat. It is just how God built the world. What we put in is what we get back.

Proverbs takes that idea and puts it right in the public square. The people we put in charge shape the life everyone else lives. Good leadership brings joy. Bad leadership brings groaning. Either way, the people feel it.

My Reflection

Here is the part I want us all to sit with. We have to live by what we vote for. Our kids and grandkids will too.

From where I sit, a lot is going right in this country. I see manufacturing coming back. I see paychecks growing. I see families with more breathing room than they had a few years ago. Yet if all you did was watch the evening news, you might never know it. Too often the media leaves out half the story or bends it to fit an agenda. That is why I believe it matters to look past the headlines, do your own homework, and pray before you vote.

You may not agree with me on every issue, and that is okay. What I am asking is that you show up. Read about the candidates. Read your ballot before you get there. Measure what you hear against God’s Word. Then go vote like it matters, because it does.

Do not be the one at the table saying “whatever.” Sitting it out is still a choice. It just means someone else picks the destination, and you ride along anyway.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the freedom to choose those who lead us. Give us wisdom to see past noise and spin, and the courage to stand for what is right. Help us vote with clear minds and honest hearts. Bless our nation, and let it be a place where the righteous thrive and the people rejoice. Whatever happens, remind us that our hope is in You first. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Please share this post with everyone you can. Send it to your family, your church, your coworkers, your group chats. Somebody on your list needs this reminder before November 3. One share could be the nudge that gets someone to the polls.
